We were proud to host our Turning the Tide conference and film premiere at Alexandra’s Live in Chester bringing together professionals, advocates and people passionate about supporting women and families to explore trauma, domestic abuse and the realities of navigating the Family Court system.
The event created a powerful space for learning, reflection and honest conversation, uniting voices from across legal services, social care, mental health, education and the voluntary sector, alongside those with lived experience and a shared commitment to change.
A key moment of the day was the premiere of The Tide, our short film highlighting the lived experiences of women navigating the court and social care systems following domestic abuse. The film captured the confusion, fear and intimidation many survivors face, offering a vital insight into experiences that are often misunderstood or unseen.
We were honoured to hear from a range of speakers, including lived experience speaker Charlotte Budd, family court solicitor Richard Port MBE, and Professor Lisa Oakley from the University of Chester, who shared their knowledge and perspectives on trauma, domestic abuse and the impact of systems on families.
Throughout the day, we explored how trauma shapes behaviour and decision-making, the long-term impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), and the urgent need for trauma-informed approaches across all services supporting women and children.
This event was about more than awareness, it was about connection, collaboration and action. By bringing together professionals, advocates and those with lived experience, we were able to open up important conversations about how systems can better support women and families.
Turning the Tide marks an important step in continuing to push for change, working towards a system that is fairer, more understanding and centred around the wellbeing and safety of women and children.
Thank you to everyone who attended, contributed and supported this important event.
